My Workshops are a time to sit down with friends and work with your hands. Workshops are a time to catch up with friends, or make new friends, and for me to share my own techniques as my students put away their machines and slow stitch.
Available as either In-Person or Virtual Zoom classes. Click on the photos for more information on each class.

Learn to Make a Crazy Quilt
This is a companion workshop to my Crazy Quilts Through the Ages lecture. We start with a simple block and transfer the pattern then use the flip and sew method to attach fabrics by machine or by hand. Then the fun starts. We will embroider a good luck spider and spiderweb to your block. This is a 6 hour class.

JAPANESE RICE BAG - KOMEBUKURO
This bag has been used for centuries to carry rice from market to table. Construct the bag by hand or by machine and add some simple Sashiko patterns for decoration. Let me show you how in this 6 hour class. I teach this both virtually and in-person.

VISIBLE MENDING THE BORO WAY
Thread bare jeans, a hole in your favorite jacket, a worn spot in your tote bag, all these can be the springboard for creativity. Mend your garments with simple embroidery and Sashiko stitches. A 3 hour class covers basic mending using inside and outside applique. In a 6 hour class students can also make a Sashiko stitched patch for their garment. Available as a virtual or in-person class. This class can be combined with my lecture "Visible Mending the Boro Way".

BEGINNING SASHIKO
Learn the Sashiko stitch technique and how to use the patterns, threads and supplies used by Japanese stitchers. You will learn 3 basic patterns in this 3 hour class that can be used to decorate garments or quilts.

JAPANESE WASH CLOTHS - HANA FUKIN
In Japan everyone carries a wash cloth, called a Hana Fukin, to dry their hand after washing. Learn to make one with simple Sashiko patterns. A good next step class for both beginners and experienced stitchers. A 3 hour class that requires a kit fee.

LEARN TO HAND PIECE
This workshop will teach you how to hand piece your quilt blocks. We cover how to stitch simple 4 patch to half square triangles to templates and curved seams. You will learn more that stitching. My tips on how to press, block your work, fast piece and more will be covered. A 6 hour class.

HAND QUILTING - Not a Forgotten Art
You will learn the hand quilters rocking stitch, how to tie and set a quilters knot, and how to thread baste. Also covered is how develop a hand quilting pattern and how to mark it. I will show you examples of my work and give you advice on hand quilting your finished tops. This is a 6 hour class.

BIG STITCH HAND QUILTING
Big Stitch Hand Quilting will give your quilt that extra zing. Learn the modified rocking stitch with the proper needles, thread and thimbles and how to Big Stitch Quilt with or without a hoop. This is my specialty and I teach a 6 hour class in-person that will get you started.

SASHIKO PLACEMATS
Learn how to do Sashiko stitching by making a placemat with a distinctive fan pattern. How to do the Sashiko stitch, use authentic Japanese supplies, and how to design with Japanese fabrics will be covered in this workshop. A 3 hour class

WOVEN SASHIKO
A good next step class to improve your Sashiko stitching. Kuguri sashi, woven stitches will be covered from simple to complex. If your Sashiko skills are rusty, don't worry. We will go over them in class. This is a 4 hour class

BEGINNING HAND EMBROIDERY
This is a 4 hour class that will teach you the basic stitches and how to get started on an embroidery project. I will supply fabric with a pre-printed sampler pattern that incorporates eight basic stitches. This is an In-Person or Virtual Zoom class.

DEBONE A SHIRT AND MAKE A MEMORY PILLOW
A loved one is not forgotten. Take all those worn shirts and recycle them into pillows and quilt blocks. Let me show you how in this 3 hour class. A beginners class for both in-person or a virtual presentation.
